Parent-Child Interaction (PCI) Feeding & Teaching Scales
The NCAST PCI Scales are the most widely used scales today for measuring parent-child interaction. They are a reliable and valid means of observing and rating caregiver-child interaction for the purpose of assessing a dyad's strengths and areas needing improvement. The scales are used in both clinical practice and research with families and young children. They are used as pre and post-test measures and contain a well developed set of observable behaviors that describe the caregiver-child communication and interaction during either a feeding situation, birth to 12 months of life, or a teaching situation, birth to 36 months of age.
The PCI Feeding and Teaching Scales are used by public health nurses, social workers, researchers, educators, pediatricians, occupational therapists, infant mental health consultants and others. Using the PCI scales gives the provider a new lens with which to see the strengths and areas for growth in the parent-child relationship and gives concrete areas in which to guide intervention.
